Getting Certified with High Blood Pressure at E-Z DOT Physicals at 84 Chiropractic

Are you a truck driver diagnosed with high blood pressure? Wondering if you can still get your DOT physical and stay on the road? You’re not alone. Many qualified drivers manage hypertension with medication and lifestyle changes. Here, we’ll clarify the DOT’s blood pressure guidelines and explain why E-Z DOT Physicals at 84 Chiropractic is the perfect place for your DOT physical if you have high blood pressure.

Understanding the DOT Blood Pressure Regulations

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) sets the guidelines for driver health, including blood pressure. According to the FMCSA, these are the blood pressure limits for getting a DOT medical certification:

  • Normal: Less than 140/90 mmHg (millimeters of mercury)
  • Elevated: 140-159/90-99 mmHg. Requires yearly monitoring by a medical examiner.
  • High Blood Pressure Stage 1: 160-179/100-109 mmHg. Requires a three-month follow-up exam to get certified, with medication and lifestyle changes encouraged.
  • High Blood Pressure Stage 2: 180/110 mmHg or higher. Disqualifies you from driving until your blood pressure is controlled. You’ll have six months to get it under control and obtain a new certification.

Key Point: If you have high blood pressure, it doesn’t automatically disqualify you from getting your DOT physical. With proper management and a doctor’s approval, you can still be certified to drive commercially.
